Unity malfunction on chromebook topic

I recently installed ubuntu on my chromebook and set up unity and all my normal programs. When I rebooted to check if the priority settings held, I found that they did not. I launched ubuntu, and the desktop would not render. Specifically, the launcher and taskbar were not present. I am able to open the terminal and run programs through that, but again, the launcher and taskbar are not present.
