Avidemux: How to index file types other than just mpg topic

Hey all,

I'd ask this on avidemux.org, but their registration appears to be disabled for some reason.

Anyway, maybe someone here will know this:

When I open an MPEG file with avidemux, it gives me the option to build an index (which it stores in a file). Once built, I can scroll really smoothly through the video and everything. It does not give me that option for other file types (e.g. mp4), and so I can only scroll in too-large chunks (1-10 second intervals), or frame-by-frame, neither of which is appealing.

Is there a way to force it to build a proper index for all file types, or is MPEG somehow special? Since I can always go frame by frame, it would stand to reason that it should be able to index anything, after it's been loaded into memory.

Thanks much!

Can't type character "P" uppercase in terminal: it just won't accept it topic

Hello fellow GNU lovers!

I guess I can safely say I found a very weird bug, of which I haven't found any single reference anywhere on the Internet. So I have got to post here to ask for suggestions and general help with my issue.
The issue:
I can't type the letter P in its uppercase form in my terminal... When I try entering one on my keyboard, it's just as if nothing happens.
  • Shift+P won't type an uppercase P in the terminal, does nothing instead.
  • Copy "P" and paste into terminal will result in nothing pasted.
  • Copy "Pokemon" and paste into terminal will result in "okemon".
  • Typing an uppercase 'P' or copy-pasting it in any other program will work as expected (like here in Firefox, or there in gedit).

I can, however, autocomplete a folder name from "pokemon" to "Pokemon". Or have an access to a "SPACE" folder by just typing "sp" and then autocomplete using TAB. (For curious people who don't know how to be able to have autocomplete ignore case this way, you have to activate it in a ~/.inputrc file by pasting in this file the command set completion-ignore-case on.)
However, it just got annoying a few moments ago when I wanted to rsync Pokemon /my_new_folder/ because then the autocomplete doesn't work (I don't know why, maybe rsync doesn't have it).

So, putting aside the issue of being able to copy this specific folder, which there are millions of other ways of doing it (and I'm going to pick one and just do it right after I posted this), I'd like to be able to type uppercase 'P' characters again into my terminal... ^^''
So does anyone have a clue what I could do? Why this is happening to my terminal? What tests I could run to figure out how this is possible?

Thank you for reading! Thanks for caring! =)

PS: By the way, I'm on Ubuntu Gnome 14.10. I think I had this problem before, that it's not new. And, checking my laptop with Ubuntu 13.10... the terminal does accept the uppercase 'P' character as expected, no problem there.

[SOLVED] Just installed windows, now installing Ubuntu 14.10, am i doing this right? (w/ pics) topic

Hi guys! Okay so I just did a fresh install of Windows 10 and got rid of my old windows 7. I only plan on using windows to play League and maybe do some programming in visual studio. Anyways, I used to have an existing Ubuntu install before i installed windows 10 (its a long story i ****ed up plenty and managed to get windows back on my system). I just loaded from usb with Ubuntu, and wanted to start the Ubuntu install for a dual boot system but the installer says "no other operating system detected" and gives me an option to erase everything and install ubuntu or"other."

So i went with other, and i attached pics of what I see. I notice a 367 mb partition for windows recovery, then another 200gb ntfs partition which is where my windows OS is installed, so its definitely there. Then I see another partition that says "unknown" which is the one that I previously had Ubuntu installed. Finally i have the swap partition of my previous install (idk why i made it 17 gb, i have 8gb ram and i read somewhere to make it 2x your ram, so w.e, sorry guys im noob).

What do I do now? I don't want to delete my windows again because i went through a mission and a half to put windows back, but i definitely want to use ubuntu as my main system (i tried it and now i'm definitely not going back to windows but league is ****** in linux). First picture is what I see, second picture shows what I assume is the next thing i should do: double click "free space" and select use as ext4 and mount point / . And the 3rd picture shows what i see after doing that and clicking swap and selecting to use as swap. "free space" becomes sda6 with / .

Is this okay? Or is there an issue because Ubuntu didnt recognize my windows system?? Will I be able to boot both through grub if i go through with this? Any would be much appreciated!! And sorry for the noobiness, gotta start somewhere though.
