[ubuntu] Cannot mount Drive after Electrical Spike topic

Hello everyone :-)

I have my PC on a UPS because we have cuts in electricity very often lately due to weather.
Just a few minutes ago, there was an cut for a split second, and my PC turned off!!

I really don't know why! I didn't think that was even possible.

The worst thing though was that I get the error while booting that
"There was a problem mounting the Drive, press S to skip or M to manually fix"

I am not entirely sure about the wording but it's pretty close.

I tried rebooting a couple of times and it didn't fix it.

I am able to boot but when I try to access the 240GB HD that is mounted under my /home I get this error message :

Error mounting system-managed device /dev/sda2: Command-line `mount "/home/evans/Data240GB"' exited with non-zero exit status 13: $MFTMirr does not match $MFT (record 0).
Failed to mount '/dev/sda2': Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.

I am very afraid that my disk is dead. Nooooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!

I don't have windows on that machine... I am windows clean for some years now.

Could someone please direct me to a resource explaining what I need to do, maybe software to help me diagnose, or anything that could help me find out what happened with the HD.

Is there any hope for the disk to be fine, and need smt really simple?

Maybe someone can help me with the "Manual" procedure of mounting the Disk...

Please help!!

Cannot mount HDD topic

Dear All,

Variant of this problem may be common but I couldn't solve it.

I have a 1 TB Silicon Power External hdd. It is formatted with gparted, using ext4 and gpt.

Everything was working fine till today. I unmounted it with

sudo umount /media/directory

Since then, I cannot mount it by any means.

Here I post the outputs of commands I tried.

Code:

sudo fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976773168 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x0004d6da

Code:

sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/sdb /media/peptid/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
      dmesg | tail  or so

HTML Code:

/usr/bin/udisks --mount /dev/sdb
Mount failed: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

I opened gparted, and it says 'filesystem is unknown'

Code:

/usr/bin/udisks --mount /dev/sdb --mount-fstype ext4
Mount failed: Not a mountable file system

I have very important data in it, so I have to save.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to mount NFS share on client using autofs topic

Hi,
I have a debian wheezy distribution running on a pocket server (cubox-i) on my home network.
I export the NFS shares in /etc/exports on the server:

Code:

/media/myShare  192.168.1.*(rw,all_squash,sync,no_subtree_check)

I can mount it on my ubuntu laptop (client side) and I can access the files:

Code:

mount 192.168.1.2:/media/myShare /mnt/

However, I try to automount it using autofs but it doesn't work (I don't see any information in /var/log/syslog)
Here is the content of my /etc/auto.master file :

Code:

# Mount Cubox NFS shares
/mnt/nfs    /etc/auto.nfs    --timeout=30

Here is the content of my /etc/auto.nfs file :

Code:

# NFS shares rules
myShare  -fstype=auto    192.168.1.2:/media/myShare

Do you have any idea about why it doesn't work?
Or any help to debug it? Where should I look?
Thanks!
Djib'
