[ubuntu] Ubuntu 14.04 stuck at 640x480 dell s2009wb monitor topic

I plugged my Dell s2009wb monitor into a Linux Ubuntu 14.04 computer and it says it failed all resolution tests and told me it will be set at 640x480. the monitor is capable of 1600x900 and all the resolutions that failed, worked on all Windows versions that monitor has been hooked up to, everything from Windows 98, XP, & 7. XP even included it's native 1600x900 resolution but Ubuntu doesn't like my monitor for some reason

How can I remedy this?

from Google:

Your search - ubuntu stuck 640x480 dell s2009wb - did not match any documents.
Suggestions:

  • Make sure all words are spelled correctly.[/*]
  • Try different keywords.[/*]
  • Try more general keywords.[/*]
  • Try fewer keywords.[/*]

I searched the software center for both "dell monitor" and "s2009wb" and both got "no results" I go into software updates and additional drivers, it says "no proprietary drives are in use" and "No additional drivers are available"

setting/display only shows 640x480 or the other 480p 16:9 & 16:10 variants

Ubuntu worked fine with 1280x1024 on an older monitor that this replaced.

Dell D630 Lubuntu Bluetooth problem topic

Hi, I'm very new to the linux world (meaning I'm still pretty clumsy getting around) but anyhow, I have installed Lubuntu 14.10 to reinvigorate my dell D630 laptop. I have been trying to get the bluetooth working in order to connect to a logitech bluetooth audio receiver. I installed the bluetooth manager and everytime I try to run it, it says the bluetooth needs to be enabled, which I click the enable button. Nothing happens. I've googled around and it seems the bluetooth needs to be turned on in windows, but I no longer have windows installed or the ability to install it on this machine. Is there any other way to get this to work or a wiki somewhere I could follow? Thanks for your time. Christopher

[ubuntu] Dell Inspiron 6400 topic

Hi,

I can't get WiFi working on this old laptop of mine with Broadcom 4311 Wireless, and the ethernet port is broken. The stickied guide at the top gives me "E: Unable to locate package firmware-b43-installer", is there any way to install this without being connected to the internet?
Thanks
