Second monitor stuck sideways in 14.04.1 Unity topic

Second monitor stuck sideways in 14.04.1 Unity

Tried fixing this through System Settings > Displays

But the only options available for the Rotation option are “Counterclockwise” and “Clockwise.” No “Normal” option is available.

This second monitor is a SHARP X Flat TV.

The Displays setting utility names this second monitor as “Unknown Display.”

Clicking the “Detect Displays” button in the Displays setting utility changes nothing.

The signal for this second monitor is routed through a home theater receiver/amp before it reaches the TV.

The first monitor is a TOSHIBA TV/VGA Monitor thing and the Display settings utility names it specifically and correctly.

The computer is an HP Media Center PC m7250n desktop – dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu 14.04.1. (Of course the dual monitor setup works perfectly in Windows XP.)

The video output is via a PCI video card.

So here is my lspci output:

So, is there a way to get my second monitor normalized?

[P.S. Why did the Ubuntu folk design the second monitor function to output sideways only for unknown monitors? Like, wouldn't “Normal” have been a better default for that? Geeeeez.]

change physical disks, stuck topic

I am running 12.04 64bit, on 512gig drive. I have upgraded the system hardware (processor and memory) so why not the disk..
have a spare 1.5t drive, slightly faster than 512g drive

added 1.5t as second physical

used dd -f /dev/sda /dev/sdb

to clone
shut down, removed old drive
put new drive data cable in same sata port
powered on, booted fine...

gparted says the drive has ~1t free, as expected
won't let me resize it into the free space

I used lvm lvdisplay to display the lvms..

had 2. /dev/servername/root, mounted at /
and /dev/servername/swap_1

I turned off swap swapoff -a
then deleted the second lvm
lvdelete /dev/servername/swap_1

then gparted would allow me to expand the partition, so I did to full volume.
the LVM overlay (type 83) also expanded.

however, none of the free space when to the lvm labeled /dev/servername/root

I 'know' that this is inside the extended partition on the drive and inside the type 83 partition.

I just don't know how to resolve this.

vgextend fails, no free space
lvextend wants a physical volume

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 14.04 fglrx-updates hd 6450 stuck on wrong resolution topic

Believe me I know there enough threads out there on this very subject. I've gone through every single one of them.

Here's my issue. I've got a vga passthrough thing going on with kvm so I've got an nvidia gtx 560 just passing through, if that matters, and an ATI radeon hd 6450 on the host machine. I've had this card for a couple of weeks now and it has yet to make it past 1600x1200. I need it to be 1680x1050. I tried the open source radeon driver and it doesn't seem to even want to load. 640x480 is pretty tought to work with. I tried to modprobe it and it couldn't find the radeon driver at all. The package I installed for it was xserver-xorg-video-ati, and nothing. I don't know why it wouldn't load on boot. I've checked and rechecked all my blacklistings and radeon is not being blacklisted. So i went back to the fglrx driver. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't here. I've litteraly gone through about two or three pages of google searches trying to find a solution. I've run out of solutions to try. The only thing I really havent tried yet is xrandr, but I have no idea how to use it. I've edited the xorg.conf file. Tried amdcccle, with sudo.....I don't know why this thing won't just use the right resolution. I don't know if this makes any difference or not, but the monitor is connected via VGA cable, since the DVI source is being used by the Nvidia card being passed through.

Here's xrandr's output

Code:

Stuck in App Store Deployment: "dpkg-shlibdeps -l option" fails at canonical topic

Sorry If I sound a little frustrated but I'm already waiting for over 4 month for an app-store review of my game and it just won't happen:

The last response I got was that my application could not be build from source (debsrc package) because the execution of dh_shlibdeps failed:

dh_shlibdeps --dpkg-shlibdeps-params="--ignore-missing-info -ldebian/memorytheminorplanets/opt/memorytheminorplanets"
dpkg-shlibdeps: unknown option `-ldebian/memorytheminorplanets/opt/memorytheminorplanets'

which I think is funny because this option is described in the manual:

Code:

yousry@Blasphemy:~/Documents/deploy/Feb15/memorytheminorplanets-1.1$ man dpkg-shlibdeps

Options:
...
-ldirectory
Add directory to the list of directories to search for private shared libraries (since dpkg 1.17.0). This option can be used multiple times.
...

and it is also working for me:

Code:

yousry@Blasphemy:~/Documents/deploy/Feb15/memorytheminorplanets-1.1$ dh_shlibdeps --dpkg-shlibdeps-params="--ignore-missing-info -ldebian/memorytheminorplanets/opt/memorytheminorplanets"

I'im using utopic as build system:

Linux Blasphemy 3.16.0-28-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Dec 12 17:37:40 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I also checked the resulting deb on the same system:

http://virtualhorde.com/BIN/memoryth...ntu1_amd64.deb

So what could be the difference between my and the reviewers system?

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 14.04 stuck at 640x480 dell s2009wb monitor topic

I plugged my Dell s2009wb monitor into a Linux Ubuntu 14.04 computer and it says it failed all resolution tests and told me it will be set at 640x480. the monitor is capable of 1600x900 and all the resolutions that failed, worked on all Windows versions that monitor has been hooked up to, everything from Windows 98, XP, & 7. XP even included it's native 1600x900 resolution but Ubuntu doesn't like my monitor for some reason

How can I remedy this?

from Google:

Quote:

Your search - ubuntu stuck 640x480 dell s2009wb - did not match any documents.
Suggestions:

  • Make sure all words are spelled correctly.[/*]
  • Try different keywords.[/*]
  • Try more general keywords.[/*]
  • Try fewer keywords.[/*]

I searched the software center for both "dell monitor" and "s2009wb" and both got "no results" I go into software updates and additional drivers, it says "no proprietary drives are in use" and "No additional drivers are available"

setting/display only shows 640x480 or the other 480p 16:9 & 16:10 variants

Ubuntu worked fine with 1280x1024 on an older monitor that this replaced.

[ubuntu] Can't access BIOS options on MSI Wind U100 stuck in Grub Rescue topic

My main problem: I can't access BIOS boot options on my MSI Wind U100. I get the main BIOS screen, but it's conspicuously missing the "hit del for options" that used to be there--and when I try hitting various F keys and/or del, nothing ever brings up any option. Instead, I just go straight to Grub Rescue, and I can't get out.

Why I want to get to boot options: because I have a Windows XP bootable USB that I want to use to get into recovery mode and fix my MBR. But I can't figure out how to get that USB to boot when BIOS won't cooperate and when my only other option is Grub Rescue.

How I got in this mess:
I was dumb. I had a dual-boot Ubuntu/Windows XP system that I wanted to restore to factory default, with Windows only. So in Windows I deleted the Ubuntu partitions and rebooted without fixing MBR first. Ugh.

To fix the problem, on another computer, I made my XP bootable USB, but as I said, I can't get my Wind to boot into it (or anything else, or give me any BIOS options at all). Any suggestions? (I've read a lot about Grub Rescue, but it seems that it doesn't have USB drivers...?)

[ubuntu] Chrome description stuck despite efforts to fix it topic

Hello everybody,

I have a quick question about something that has been slowly driving me insane for a while.

So, when I use the google chrome web browser, every time I hover the mouse over it, it shows this: http://i.imgur.com/laiHHC2.jpg , regardless of what page is actually loaded. I have tried the following to get this to go away:

Restart computer
Purge
Remove configuration files ( the ones in ~/.config/google-chrome)
restart again just to be safe
then reinstalling

This problem just keeps on persisting. To be clear, my problem is that it shows some reddit thread as the description regardless of what is actually in the browser.

Thanks in advance for the help,
f41lurizer
