[xubuntu] Questions on pulseaudio and A2DP topic

There are two questions I'd like to ask guys and I'd appreciate it if you could help on either or both of them.

1. There are these options in pulseaudio's daemon.conf file
; default-sample-format = s16le
; default-sample-rate = 44100
; alternate-sample-rate = 48000
Do those settings tell pulseaudio that it should always resample all incoming audio to match those values no matter what, before it sends the sound to the sound card OR do they instruct pulseaudio to use these values as maximum settings and only downsample incoming audio if it exceeds them and keep the sound attributes as they are if they are <= to the shown values?

2. I want to use my Xubuntu computer as an A2DP receiver and I am using he following settings in my bluetooth "audio.conf" file:
[General]
Enable=Source,Sink,Headset,Gateway,Control,Media,S ocket
AutoConnect=true
[Headset]
HFP=false
MaxConnected=1
FastConnectable=false
[A2DP]
SBCSources=1
MPEG12Sources=0

I have also installed pulseaudio-module-bluetooth.

The computer connects successfully to my Android 4.4 phone using Blueman and music is streamed normally from the phone to the computer but there's absolutely no way for me to find the phone in pulseaudio sources or inputs so that I can route the incoming audio to the computer's speakers. There's something missing and I can't find what it is. All the instructions I've found so far assume that the bluetooth source is listed in pulseaudio sources which is exactly the issue. It's not there.

Thanks in advance... ;)

Ubuntu Report Project for School - Questions! topic

Hey guys and gals! I am new to Ubuntu, have spent 50+ hours on it, fiddling around, researching Ubuntu from past to present for my college project. I have scoured the internet for research but - you can't really trust everything but I do trust those who have spent 20x more on it than I have. I have a few questions for everyone who's reading.

Question 1: What goodies about Ubuntu, whether it is its history, cool or strange facts, etc. That I can't find on the internet are there? In other words, I want to know everything about Ubuntu that you can't really find on Google.

Question 2: Ubuntu is an excellent desktop OS, what makes it stand out so well from other Open Source OS's?

Question 3: I can't find much on the internet about Ubuntu Phone but I am dying to know more! Please? :D

Question 4: How many people work on Ubuntu to this day? Who manages updates, etc?

Question 5: Last but not least; I am on my way to becoming a cloud computing analyst/networking, with virtualization as well, how can Ubuntu benefit the future of cloud computing and cloud network? How do deployments fair compared to other OS deployments (Sorry that was 2 questions :P)

I appreciate your time and your knowledge everyone. Thank you for answering and reading. If you have any other awesome tid-bits about Ubuntu I should write about, please let me know. I will reference you by name/username in my report (With your permission). Thank you!

Erick

[ubuntu] Grub question-s? topic

My machine is an HP DM1 with 14.04 Gnome installed and I've been using Ubuntu Linux a long time. The grub file has always been somewhat of a mystery which has lately gotten even more so. At least two problems here:

One, I tried out different desktops lately (using apt-get install xubuntu desktop for instance) and now can't get rid of the resulting trash they generated (eg: the flash screens) I have uninstalled most of them manually with terminal commands but one, Kubuntu, remains.

Secondly: I counted 60 previous versions of the kernel in my grub this morning and am wondering if those are really full kernels cluttering up my hard drive. If so how do I get rid of most of them - I would assume that 4 or 5 would be sufficient for backup in case of a glitch in a new one. BTW, I update daily.

Another problem which appears to be getting more frequent: I lose my keyboard input more and more often lately. I realize it could be a hardware problem; is there any way to determine that?

Sorry if there are too many topics here. Trying to be economical.

[ubuntu] planning on installing 14.04.1, but a few questions first! topic

I downloaded the Ubuntu 14.04.1 ISO and am planning on installing it on an 8 core AMD FX8150 with 16GB RAM and a 2TB SATAIII hard drive. I hear there is this thing called "Play on Linux" which apparently allows me to play Windows games on Linux. Does this count for Steam? (most of my games are on there) And what about World of Warcraft? If I can get WoW and my Steam games working without huge amounts of technical BS, I'd never use Windows again.

Please help! Thanks! :)
