[xubuntu] Questions on pulseaudio and A2DP topic

There are two questions I'd like to ask guys and I'd appreciate it if you could help on either or both of them.

1. There are these options in pulseaudio's daemon.conf file
; default-sample-format = s16le
; default-sample-rate = 44100
; alternate-sample-rate = 48000
Do those settings tell pulseaudio that it should always resample all incoming audio to match those values no matter what, before it sends the sound to the sound card OR do they instruct pulseaudio to use these values as maximum settings and only downsample incoming audio if it exceeds them and keep the sound attributes as they are if they are <= to the shown values?

2. I want to use my Xubuntu computer as an A2DP receiver and I am using he following settings in my bluetooth "audio.conf" file:
[General]
Enable=Source,Sink,Headset,Gateway,Control,Media,S ocket
AutoConnect=true
[Headset]
HFP=false
MaxConnected=1
FastConnectable=false
[A2DP]
SBCSources=1
MPEG12Sources=0

I have also installed pulseaudio-module-bluetooth.

The computer connects successfully to my Android 4.4 phone using Blueman and music is streamed normally from the phone to the computer but there's absolutely no way for me to find the phone in pulseaudio sources or inputs so that I can route the incoming audio to the computer's speakers. There's something missing and I can't find what it is. All the instructions I've found so far assume that the bluetooth source is listed in pulseaudio sources which is exactly the issue. It's not there.

Thanks in advance... ;)

Making PulseAudio output mono audio topic

I found an earlier 'solved' post in this forum (linked below) that didn't give a satisfying solution to the problem of remapping a stereo output to become a mono output. I found another seemingly better solution, making use of only pulseaudio, and only requiring a one-time change of a config-file (at least concerning your main internal soundcard).

Original thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1049371
Answer based on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...stereo_to_mono

Solution:

For every soundcard you want to enable a mono option for - get the pulseaudio registered name of it. This can be done by writing the following in your shell:

Code:

pacmd list-sinks | grep name:

Next, for all the soundcards chosen, add the following line to your "/etc/pulse/default.pa" (e.g. use gedit or nano), where you replace the word 'foo' with the soundcards name (seen inside angle-brackets in the previous output):

Code:

load-module module-remap-sink master=foo sink_name=mono channels=2 channel_map=mono,mono

The reason for separating these two steps instead of having them in a single command, is to be able to choose the relevant soundcards to enable remapping for. There will emerge one more audio-output per soundcard in your sound-settings (e.g. pavucontrol), and you possibly don't wan't this for all your soundcards.
Another reason for one not to want this, is if some of the soundcards are external - then they won't neccesarily be connected to the computer all the time; where the pulseaudio server will fail to start.

Other answers, avoiding this last problem are very wellcome..

ASUS Xonar DSX not working with Pulseaudio nor Alsa topic

I read a thread from 2013 on the Ubuntu forums and from later 2013 on the Mint forums covering this. From those, I was told to use this: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.lin...a.devel/100921
However, I'm not sure how to apply that patch. So far as I can tell, there is no alsa-devel in the repositories.
One of the threads concluded that on newer kernal versions, this sound card should work. I'm on 3.13 and it's not being detected.

Any help?
