[lubuntu] How can I fix my broken network connection? topic

I'm running Lubuntu 14.04 LTS, dual boot with Windows XP. In Lubuntu, I could connect to the Internet on my home wireless connection, but not on the wired connection. In Windows, neither would connect. I contacted the Microsoft forum and somebody there was very helpful but their suggestions could not fix the problem. So I looked here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1661489

I followed the third method suggested, omitting the steps involving downloaded drivers (as my drivers are included in the kernel, I am told). This involved removing Network Manager, editing /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/resolv.conf, and restarting networking.

That didn't work and now my problem is that I have also lost the ability to connect wirelessly. The hard button on my old HP laptop which turns on wireless no longer lights up.

Can anybody help, please?

[ubuntu] accidentally removed my Internet connection topic

Hey guys,

i did this:

Code:

sudo apt-get remove build-essential libreadline-dev libssl-dev libpq5 libpq-dev libreadline5 libsqlite3-dev libpcap-dev openjdk-7-jre subversion git-core autoconf postgresql pgadmin3 curl zlib1g-dev libxml2-dev libxslt1-dev vncviewer libyaml-dev ruby1.9.3 ruby-dev

Now i dont have a connection anymore.
It says

Code:

The system network service is not compatible with this version

I wanted to reinstall the removed packages with a live-stick, but it didnt work.
Any ideas how i can fix this problem ?

Thanks

Ubuntu: 14.10 64bit

Wired Connection Doesn't Work Sometimes When Booting Ubuntu topic

I am sorry if this is already asked somewhere, but I haven't seen it anywhere. I have a dualboot Ubuntu installed with Windows 8.1. Sometimes when I get on Ubuntu, I have no internet and there is a wifi icon on the top right doing an animation which looks like it is searching for wireless internet. The thing is this is a stationary PC and it can't connect to any wifi. It simply doesn't have the hardware to support that. So far it seems that for some strange reason the internet works again if I boot Windows first, restart the computer, and then boot Ubuntu. Thanks in advance!

[ubuntu] Wireless connection unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 (ASUS N56JN) topic

Hi,
I am a newcomer to Ubuntu 14.04 and installed it in dual boot with the original Win 8.1 for work purposes on my new ASUS N56JN laptop. It has a Ralink internal Wireless card (I couldn't find any specific model in the info given by Asus or by Windows device manager). I'm experiencing a few issues on the Wi-fi side:

-when connecting to my parents' house wireless network, it would make the network unavailable for others and the connection would repeatedly disconnect after a few seconds of stability (WPA2 security protocol);
-when trying to connect to my university's secured network, it can't connect after asking for username and password and any further connection attempt gives the "failed to activate network" message.
-when trying to connect to my university's open network (which requires browser authentication), it connects but then doesn't allow to contact the server for browser authentication.

Could anyone help in solving at least one of the 2 "university" problems? I specificate that under Win 8.1 everything works perfectly, nonetheless I need a Linux system to work on so I badly need to solve this problem.
I also have to point out that I can't connect to the internet while on Ubuntu, so any internet-requiring solution is ruled out unless it can be adapted using Win to download files and then switching to Ubuntu for running them.
Step by step solutions are appreciated since I am not much familiar with shell and the whole Linux environment yet.

Thank you,

Carlo

[ubuntu] 14.04.1: No wireless connection [Intel Corporation Wireless 3160] topic

Hi,
first of all i'am new in the linux world.

I have the problem, that i don*t getting a wireless connection.
I'm using the latest firmware from:
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/...rivers/iwlwifi

I have found several threads in the internet of problems with that controler, but nothing solves my problem.

Ok, here my infos.
dmesg shows:

Code:

Request for unknown module key 'Magrathea: Glacier signing key: 007271576a09d86ef244371b0633e47abb75b89d' err -11

and the wireless script gave me that back

[ubuntu] Amazon.com connection keeps timing out in Firefox topic

Has anyone had trouble with amazon.com website timing out in Firefox when pages are partially loaded, appear to be already loaded, or in some cases before anything loads at all? I get an error page that "Connection timed out" with a Retry button. Sometimes I get that repeatedly until I finally get the page to fully load. I think that has been happening for at least months from when I was still running 64-bit 12.04. But it is also happening in fresh install of 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04.1 (Jan 2015) with all updates. Today it happened while looking around, and while submitting an order nothing returned at all, it just sat there forever until the connection timed out. I knew not to Retry that (to avoid a duplicate order), so I went back to amazon.com home page and under "Your Account" it did show that the order had been entered. I don't have that problem with any other websites.

Unstable Wi-Fi connection with Ralink RT2571W topic

Hi all,

I'm on Kubuntu 14.04 and since I changed my ISP modem-routeur, I have a quite unstable Wi-Fi connection with my Wi-Fi USB adapter D-Link DWA-110. Note: on Windows, the Wi-Fi is very stable though, so the problem doesn't strictly come from the equipment or the modem.

Here are the details of my equipment:

Code:

$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 009: ID 07d1:3c07 D-Link System DWA-110 Wireless G Adapter(rev.A1) [Ralink RT2571W]

The Wi-Fi connection is generally working fine, except when used intensively (it especially crashes after 1-2 min of Skype). Once it has crashed, I have to unplug/replug it.

I always find the same messages in the kernel logs, but I don't know if they are strictly related to the Wi-Fi crash though:

Code:

$ dmesg
[20820.500029] ieee80211 phy2: rt2x00queue_flush_queue: Warning - Queue 2 failed to flush
[20820.788022] ieee80211 phy2: rt2x00usb_watchdog_tx_dma: Warning - TX queue 2 DMA timed out, invoke forced forced reset
[20870.832268] ieee80211 phy2: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x06 failed for offset 0x308c with error -110

I've read in other thread the power management could be a possible failure reason, but it crashes even if I disable the power management:

Code:

sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

I've checked that the binary driver included in Ubuntu is the last made by Mediatek, so that I don't have any ideas.

Do you have some ideas?

Thanks a lot!

[ubuntu] No Internet Connection although wifi connected ubuntu 14.04 topic

Hey Guys,

I just installed 14.04 on my two asus netbooks(same model which is weird). One works perfectly. The other one connects to my wifi but doesn't connect to the internet. The only workaround I found out is to restart my router, after this it connects to wifi and Internet, but only as long as the netbook stays powered on. I have read several people have the same issue but could't find the right fix.

Please help me!!!

THanks in advance

Bridged OpenVPN Connection-how to create secure vpn connection with Ubuntu 14 topic

Looking at my syslogs on the client and server, it appears they are connecting on openvpn -restart. But I am unable to figure out how to make a secure VPN Connection. I am trying to use the Connection Manager, but it times out. I am not even sure you can connect that way, but that is what I have tried (VPN Connections -> Configure VPN).

My server log looks like:
