[lubuntu] Keyboard layout issues: no effect when changing settings in lxkeymap topic

One of the recent updates (~ 1.5 weeks) has totally screwed up my previous keyboard layout.
Still worse, I can't seem to REMOVE what's pre-set in there.

I've always loved the variant to have the ever-useless CAPS LOCK as "Compose" key.
However, by some magic the "shift_caps_toggle" option was added (it was not there before), and now is obviously blocking Caps Lock from working the way I want it!

I've tried everything imaginable to get the "grp:shift_caps_toggle" option removed from the layout, but it just does not work.

Plus, I've tried to grep for this option to be configured anywhere, to no avail.

Though not recommended, I even removed the "shift_caps_toggle" option from ~/.config/lxpanel/Lubuntu/panels/panel, but now look:

Code:

andy@andy-lubuntubox:~$ lxkeymap -a
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/lxkeymap/helpers.py:46: GtkWarning: Unknown property: GtkMenu.ubuntu-local
  builder.add_from_file(ui_filename)
Sections: ['Global']
Layouts: ['us']
Variants: ['', '']
Options: ['grp:shift_caps_toggle']
['Global']
['compose:caps']
Lxkeymap autostart running...

Ehh??
Where else does lxkeymap (which is a Python script, by the way) pull that Options line from?
For a moment, I've even thought of a random variable which was not cleared (like in C, when you don't initialize a string variable, it might display some random garbage)

Sometimes lxkeymap recently complains that it is unable to save current settings. Hmmm...

[lubuntu] Correct keyboard layout for Macbook1,1 topic

I am running Lubuntu 14.04.1 on a Macbook1,1 with a US keyboard layout. In this particular layout the SECTION/PLUSMINUS key is where the TILDE key is on most other keyboards, which is left of the 1 key and below ESC. The TILDE key on my keyboard is between the left SHIFT and the Z key.

I have used Keyboard Layout Handler with the following settings:

Model: macbook78
Layout: us(mac) and de(mac)
Options: -option apple:badmap

(For model I also tried all the other Mac variants, but since I am now pretty sure that the problem does not lie there, I have settled on what I think is actually correct: macbook78.)

With this setup I have the correct layout, with the exception of those two swapped keys. After serious study of the xkb files, it appears that this is not a new problem and the option "apple:badmap" is offered to correct the swap. I used xev to make sure that the keys in question returned the appropriate keycodes, so I am fairly certain that "badmap" is the option I need. For good measure, I also tried "apple:goodmap" which has the opposite mapping to "badmap", just in case I had read the files wrong after all ... but no luck there either.

After some more googling I tried setting the layout from the command line using

Code:

$ setxkbmap -model macbook78 -layout "us(mac)" -option -option "apple:badmap" -v 10
Setting verbose level to 10
locale is C
Warning! Multiple definitions of keyboard model

Warning! Multiple definitions of keyboard layout

Trying to load rules file ./rules/evdev...
Trying to load rules file /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev...
Success.
Applied rules from evdev:
rules:      evdev
model:      macbook78
layout:    us(mac)
options:    apple:badmap
Trying to build keymap using the following components:
keycodes:  evdev+aliases(qwerty)+macintosh(badmap)
types:      complete+numpad(mac)
compat:    complete
symbols:    pc+us(mac)+inet(evdev)
geometry:  macintosh(macbook78)

Apparently setxkbmap is trying to include the badmap keycodes when building the keymap, but when I then print its setup, they are not there.

Code:

$ setxkbmap -print
xkb_keymap {
        xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)"      };
        xkb_types    { include "complete+numpad(mac)"  };
        xkb_compat    { include "complete"      };
        xkb_symbols  { include "pc+us(mac)+inet(evdev)"        };
        xkb_geometry  { include "macintosh(macbook78)"  };
};

I just ran these commands again, to copy and paste into this post, and they suddenly worked. I got this output, note how the badmap keycodes are included:

Code:

$ setxkbmap -print
xkb_keymap {
        xkb_keycodes  { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)+macintosh(badmap)"      };
        xkb_types    { include "complete+numpad(mac)"  };
        xkb_compat    { include "complete"      };
        xkb_symbols  { include "pc+us(mac)+inet(evdev)"        };
        xkb_geometry  { include "macintosh(macbook78)"  };
};

I then remembered that I had removed Keyboard Layout Handler from the panel this morning. I added it to the panel again just now and now I'm back with the two keys swapped into the wrong places again! Anyone know what's happening? I would like to be able to swap between the DE and the US layout in the GUI. But it seems that if I want the two troublesome keys in the right places I cannot.

Keyboard layout topic

Hi
One thing that keeps bothering me is the keyboard layout. Many keys are in the wrong place (like @ and ") and others I can only get by coping and pasting them from somewhere else. Is there a way to change the keyboard layout so that it matches the actual keys on my keyboard?

Some keyboard shortcuts has no effect when keyboard layout is not english. topic

Hi.
Why is it that when the keyboard layout is set to non-english (Hebrew), then some keyboard shortcut does not work?
For example, when I hit Ctrl+C or Ctrl+V it has no effect whatsoever. So whenever I want to copy-paste some hebrew text, I need to shift the keyboard layout to english, then hit Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy-paste the text, then shift it back to hebrew keyboar layout to keep writing. That's really annoying.
In fact, looking at this list of keyboard shortcuts everything in that list works fine when the keyboard layout is hebrew except the Common Application shortcuts described in this link.
Is it a known bug? Is it even a bug? maybe missing installation files?

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS.
